Overview

Summary Under minimum supervision, the Layup Operator is responsible for the hand layup of advanced composite materials on designated tooling per specific work instructions, travelers, and/or customer specifications. Tasks included in this position are tooling fabrication, tool prep for lay-up, hand lay-up of pre-preg composite material using a variety of techniques and processes, vacuum bagging, precision trimming ng and layup techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Build composite parts using appropriate hand layup techniques.
  • Utilizes laser system for accurate lay up of plies on tools during layup process.
  • Fit and smooth successive layers of materials as necessary to secure build-up free from wrinkles, air pockets and voids following directions and instructions.
  • Vacuum bag parts for room temperature, oven, and autoclave.
  • Performs in-process inspections as instructed on travelers and as delegated by quality. Reads precision measuring tools and instruments.
  • Accurately records time worked on operations th rough Epicor.
  • Visually inspect for F.O.D. prior to bagging Vacuum bag parts and leak test bags.
  • Responsible for the accurate recording of al I paperwork associated with the position. Marks identifying information on parts.
  • Uses chemicals, adhesives, and solvents as required. Clean and prep bond tools as needed.
  • Unbag and demold pat1s as needed and clean area after doing so.
  • Observe safety and security procedures. Report potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Adapts to changes i n the work environment; Manages competing demands; Changes approach or method to best fit the situation; Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Ability for neatness and clean as you go to keep areas FOO free. Ability to read and understand blueprints and drawings.
  • Follows SS.
  • Act in a manner that will always enhance the integrity and respect of the department and company. Al l other duties as assigned.

Work Authorization

U.S. citizenship is a requirement for this position as TIGHITCO which is subject to ITAR regulation and compliance.

 

Experience in aerospace manufacturing preferred.

 

Education and/or Experience High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Special Job Requirements, Licenses or Certifications

Must be able to read and write the English language and learn to interpret and comprehend company policies, procedures, safety instructions, work instructions, engineering specifications, Material Safety Data Sheets, and other like documents used in an aerospace manufacturing g environment. Read and interpret blueprints. Attention to details l s such as proper adhesive application, F.O.D., bridging, proper fitting of assemblies in bond tools, ensuring backing is removed from adhesive sheets and record keeping are critical to the position.
